Fun fact, even in tropical environment, it is still possible to catch a cold.
Adding to this, there's actually no disease known as 'cold'. It's just a common name for collection of symptoms of dizziness, headache, lethargy, muscle pains, fever and/or chills caused by unbalanced body temperature, which used interchangeably with the actual disease of influenza (which is virus-caused). Usually experienced when the surface body temperature dropped below normal, causing the metabolism to kick up and raising the internal body temperature above the normal, eating up calories and burdening the system as a whole. Peoples who don't get 'cold' even when drenched in cold water while blown with strong winds, like fishermans of old probably has adapted by lowering their body-surface temperature basepoint so their body's emergency protocol won't kick in.
Red didn't really have to stay on that mountain after losing to Gold...
fun fact: in special the only reason why he was on that mountain was to train gold (there is a two chapter arc about it if you are interested) as well as to give the opportunity for red's pikachu to train his son who is gold's pichu which he had with yellow's pikachu.
