Snare is a good synonym, but that's also a drum, which may be confusing. Lure is fine.

I considered "snare", but that refers to traps involving entrapping rope devices. The drum could be easily excluded as "snare_drum", which it is often called anyway. I considered "bait" too, but it's not really referring to the trap as a whole, then. "lure" has vaguely the same problem, but at least it's less likely to be confused with fishing terminology (though we do have post #94344 ...)
