@Provence I think uploads from other boorus is such a case where we should change the URL after upload from the direct image to the HTML page (I already did).

Yeah, no. Why? It links to the same site on yande.re.
post # 2475532 still has the link when I uploaded it and it still links me to the image. I don't see the benefits, other than wasting time.

Sources should always point to the HTML page the image was on whenever possible for sites which Danbooru doesn't automatically convert. Pointing directly to the image itself leaves out a lot of information and requires anyone wanting to know more about the image to search it out, defeating the purpose.

Yeah, but what information is missing here? It still links to the same site on Yande.re. It doesn't lead to a dead-end like Twitter uploads.

When I visit the source you left before chodorov changed it, it takes me directly to the image itself, just like Twitter. Yes, I could go back through Yande.re itself from the front page and search it out, but making everyone do that is silly when the uploader should have that URL handy.

    That is interesting.
Well, on post post #2475532, the source is still unchanged. It links me to a page on Yande.re on not the image itself.
If I click there the source, I'll get this page: https://yande.re/post/show?md5=434fe9048bf4a5a2f3537eb8128fbe10.

There must be an undocumented redirect somewhere; pasting the URL goes directly to the image, clicking the link on Danbooru redirects to the HTML page. Sounds like something a dev should address as there isn't an indication of it, for instance like how Pixiv source links show where they actually go even though they don't "match" the Source box. For all I know we could both be using a userscript that handles it as well.

Well, like I said I don't really see the problem here. If there is a link on Danbooru, why should I copy and paste it? I can simply use the link on the Danbooru page?

This is odd functinality. My guess is that this is a mechanism their site uses to hinder hotlinking and lead people to the actual site. Knowing nothing about what they do, my guess is they detect that another site is the referral and then generate the MD5 URL page that directs to the post page.

This is not something done on the Danbooru side as with Pixiv links. I think we should always switch source to HTML page regardless of what a site might do on their end; imagine if you clicked the link using a referral manipulation addon. However I think Danbooru should have some image to html page conversion for certain boorus just like with Pixiv. This way the hotlinked URL can remain the source but a link to the post there is what you can click on without going to edit the post here. @OOZ662 Wouldn't that be pretty straightforward to do?

For most sites it's better to use the direct image instead of the HTML page. This is because it's usually easier for Danbooru to convert the image source -> HTML page than it is to convert HTML page -> image source. For yande.re it could certainly be done, their images contain the post ID which makes it easy to find the HTML page.

Post this request on the forum or open a github issue though, otherwise it will be forgotten.
