Long story short - The Thai version of Ramayana (called Ramakien, รามเกียรติ์) was pretty much what you could call an "official fanfic" of the actual story. While most of the tales are close to the original Ramayana, the characterisations are all over the place and even some of the backstory was rewritten to fit Thai culture and understanding.
Ravana, (Thotsakan/ทศกัณฑ์) will bang anything and everything with a hole. Even the celibate hero Hanuman was turned into such a major playboy, he had a kid with one of Ravana's daughter (the mermaid yaksa Supannamatcha whom Tossakan conceived with a fish...) when he was sent to find out what was wrecking Rama's landbridge (Rama Setu, located off the coast of Tamil Nadu out towards Sri Lanka).
Hell, Sida/Sitha was his own daughter whom he kidnapped (though he didn't know she was his actual daughter) so he could bang her. That's pretty much what started the Ramakien war on Earth, regardless of what Vishnu promised him before his reincarnation.)
Yeah, you could say this is something of a cultural rebellion because some of the younger generation aren't OK with the oldbies trying to lock up Thai culture in an untouchable ivory tower. Lots of big name Thai artists are jumping on the bandwagon, too.
