As a Fate fan I would like to correct you that he Didn't abandon her!

Considering the fact that he kept going back to the Einzbern estate to get her I wouldn't exactly call what he did "Abandoning" her!

Indeed the Einzberns after Kerry's failure to get the grail. They used some magic so that he wouldn't be able to find the estate.

And the Kiritsugu abandoning Illya part are lies made up by the elders and the Grail's influence, as shown in the new UBW.

perhaps, but the events showed that him and Irisviel couldn't be kept apart so easily. I suspect he'd somehow treat Illya the same way.
