IIRC there was a picture of a rainbow cake from America become well known among the Japanese, and has pretty become the depiction of American food.

Personally, Rainbow cake is just a cheap gimmic. Make seven colored batters and make a cake out of it.

Granted it can be good if the seven colored battered is flavored differently.

I'm partial to a good strawberry cupcake.
