I think 「意識たかい系」 translates better to "self-important" than to "self-conscious". A 意識たかい系 person shows off and wants to prove themself. A self-concious person is shy and doesn't want to stand out.

I was trying to translate the 系 as "type", since it's saying she's the "self-important type of person" but I think it works better if we just leave that alone. Not everything needs to be expressed.
