I thought schools in France don't normally teach British English?

    What?
Ergo, you must have direct contact with an American and learned it from them.
Wh-.... What's this all of the sudden....
But then, you suddenly switched to using English, in an American accent. Schools in France don't normally teach American's English.
    Your words.
So they would talk in their mother language instead. And in your case, that language is French.
While people fall in a state of confusion due to injuries, they would find it difficult to talk in a foreign language involuntarily.
Then comes the question. Did you used to study abroad in America? Or did you immigrate there?
