Yanno, more than a mongoose this new pokemon looks like a honey badger in pattern.
It's actually based on the small Asian mongoose, which was introduced in Hawaii in the 19th century to deal with rats in sugar cane plantations, but ended up becoming an invasive species in turn. In fact, the site mentions it's not native to Alola.
