Translator of title here. Series title include まるでない = "as if without any", though I honestly am still not very sure of the nuance. I couldn't think of a better way to translate the title, so that's why it's got the current title.

I suppose they're just incredibly (and perhaps impossibly) comfortable with each other, still aware of sexuality, and at the same time aware that they hold no romantic feelings for each other, which is why they do what they do. The way I see it, they'll probably try sex out once or twice, just because they're so close and that's what most people would do at that level of intimacy, and then decide it's not for them.

Or maybe both of them is simply in denial, that "we're best friends, this is what best friends do", even though they just want to get into each other's pants.

That's what I thought, but some of the things they do and the choices they make just feels like it's done for the punchline's sake.

I quite enjoy this series regardless, it just sits weird with me.

i doubt they will ever date. it feels like they will grow up to be friends with benefits but when one of them finds a romantic interest, they will call it off but still remain friends.

It's a comic strip. Lot's of shit in comics gets done for the punchline's sake. That's where some of the best absurd humor comes from, IMO.
