Reminds me of when I lived in a farming community and illegal aliens would rip out copper piping to sell for scrap that was worth a couple of dollars, while the repair costs were hundreds to thousands of dollars. A lot of the farmers would have rather just given the criminals money since it would be cheaper and less of a hassle.
