I'm pretty disappointed that these two haven't found any common ground among fans. When you think about it, they have a lot more than the Engrish in common. Name ship of the class, 3 little sisters each, both are fast battleships, both underwent extensive refits. They should be buds.

I have no idea what Iowa's canon personality is, but the fandom one she's had so far really doesn't jive with Kongo's most of the time, in my opinion. One's obsessed with Admiral LOVE and the other with representing 'Muricuh; the "objectives" don't really mesh, so they always end up in "yuri for the sake of yuri" pictures or Engrish explosions.
We kinda do, actually. She has lines and everything that can be found on the wiki. From that, her personality seems to be the positive stereotype Japanese have of Americans: bombastic, outgoing, and very friendly. In other words, quite a bit like Kongous.
Instead of opposites attract it's more like too alike to get along. At least from Kongou's side. Iowa seems to really want to buddy up with the old timer.
It kind of reminds me of the relationship between Teddy Roosevelt and Winston Churchill. Churchill got along famously with Franklin but the elder Roosevelt never had anything good to say about the Brit. Some historians have said the two were very much alike and Teddy didn't like Churchill mostly because he saw too much of himself in the younger man.
