Gundam's not the disease. Tetsujin 28-go (Gigantor) is the disease. It was the first Giant Robot anime. While Mazinger Z is the first 'Super Robot' Anime series, so the disease that is the giant mech was not started by Gundam. It's just... Gundam is unholy popular with over 19 different incarnates.
