Late in the war, Japan did not have the fuel to operate a lot of her ships. These are late built destroyers and it wouldn't be uncommon to not have them go out much due to lack of fuel or ammo, depending on where they were stationed.

Just going off the top:
As far as I know, near the later portion of the war, Imperial Japan was crippled for resources at home and up front. Low capital, economy in ruins, starvation, etc. I think this is partly due to Japan's extravagant use of resources earlier in the war, but that aside...
I can't find anything in particular about the Akizuki-class destroyers and food. Pretty much every ship had food problems when things got bad. Most ships were served rice, spare veggies, and barley mash. Meat was a no.
Maybe someone who knows more about life on the IJN ships could give some thoughts about what that was like, but otherwise I'm not 100% sure if there are any notable incidents about the Akizuki-class destroyers and rationing food.
