Though what exactly would happen if those two were to start blasting each other?
Bismarck gets recked
Iowa has 16 inch super heavy shells that can punch through the belt of the Bismarck at a longer range then Bismarck shells can. Plus better fire control for more hits.
So at range Iowa wins easily.
Sure if Bis gets in close and let loose...
Well, it comes down to who can tank more. And both of them are tough.
>Classier Body (Big Breasts but not Mega Milk Monstrosities) >Classier Name (Blood and Iron Chancellor > Some backwoods State) >Classier Hat >Classier Font Type
Or is played by a Chinese or Korean instead of a Japanese.
"Eh, all Asians look and sound the same, right?"
Or heaven forbid, a Scottish guy in yellowface.
There are about 40,000 people of Japanese descent people in California... there are 1.5 million Chinese and 500,000 Koreans. There are more people from Pakistan living in California then Japan. So just to start Japanese constitute 0.11 percent of the population of the central area of the entertainment industry, of that tiny percentage only another tiny percent are actors, of that tiny percentage only a small percentage of the actor pool will fit a given role (sex, age, etc). If anything Japanese characters are probably over represented, compare the number of characters with supposed Japanese backgrounds to those with Korean, Vietnamese, or Filipino even though all of those groups have vastly large populations in the state.
That being the case it's inevitable that other Asian actors will end up playing some of them, although why people act like this is quasi-racist eludes me. They're fucking actors playing people they aren't is their god damn job. I consider this a a very stupid double standard. No one seems to whine for instance if an English actor plays a German, or a French one a Belgian. Yet for some reason A Chinese person playing a Japanese has some negative connotation even though they're pretty much as closely related race wise as the western Europeans just mentioned.
A more valid criticisms is that they're aren't enough minority roles to begin with, but bitching about which minority is playing the ones that exist is frikkin stupid IMO.
I also don't think the average American depiction of a Japanese from the last few decades is usually nearly as stereotypical as the reverse for the simple reason the average American writer is vastly more likely to have at least encountered asians if not Japanese and just more intuitively grasps the concept that other racial groups are as diverse as their own because they're so much more exposed to them. It's also a fact an American writer is much more likely to be called out on blatant stereotypes then the Japanese where causal racism toward foreigners is pretty much the status quo.

Weird that Bismarck would lose. One would think German Engineering would trump American.
In World War 2 our advantage in tanks was purely that we could make more. Germany's Tiger Tanks were nearly unstoppable.
Fun fact: Germany and Japan were allies because both countries had a long existing relationship. Japan based theor constitution on Imperial Germany's. Because Germany was the most industrialized, proficient in engineering, and powerful nation on Earth. Makes sense since it took two crushing defeats against many adversaries to change that.

Nazi Germany sucked at making ships though. Except U-Boats, but they're well, boats.

German shipbuilding was behind due to treaties and lack of interest from the Nazi government. Tanks appeal to the brass...ships didn't. German ships were designs at least partially as raiders since they had no way of building up to the scale of the Royal Navy this time around. Bismarck was an improved and slightly modern take on a World War One battleship design. Iowa was the third new American fast battleship class and the first to basically say "to hell with the treaty" after the Japanese pulled out of the Second London Treaty talks of 1936. That and the Americans had continued to build and design warships in the 1920s and 1930s.
Bismarck may have been very impressive, but she was designed to fight older French and British capital ships, or run away from more powerful ships (like any of the Big Seven). Iowa was designed to catch and sink just about any capital ship in the world at that time.
This is actually pretty funny, since Iowa might actually tower over Bismarck since she is as tall as Yamato in that official art that Yoshinori drew. I mean, Yamato is much taller than Nagato, and that is who I think Bismarck matches in height.

The whole "Superior German Engineering" thing is hilariously exaggerated by post-war media. Bismarck was essentially an upscaled WW1 battleship with some slightly thicker armor and higher velocity guns. The only reason she is so hyped as a "Nazi super battleship" is because Britain lost the Mighty Hood to her, the pride of the Royal Navy. The Mighty Hood being an outdated, unmodernized, and under armored battlecruiser. If PoW hadn't been having gun problems, she could have taken Bismarck. You ever see the British documentary on hunting the Tirpitz? They treat her like she was the biggest naval threat to the Allies in WW2, even though she literally sat in harbor the whole war, and everyone, including Britain, had ships that could take her on one-to-one.
The Tiger tank is also overhyped because almost all of its success was against the Soviets, who had been losing to the Germans since early war, even when the Germans were outnumbered and fighting T-34's using Panzer III's. In fact, most of Germany's success in all areas was against the Soviets, who used outdated and low quality equipment, coupled with disparagingly poor tactics most of the war. Many Soviet monoplanes were even made out of wood.
American Shermans only encountered the Tiger tank on 3 confirmed occasions, and the Shermans won on two of them, without taking any losses. Even the Panthers struggled against the Sherman until the Battle of the Bulge in late '44. Look up the Battle of Arracourt, where a group of outnumbered Shermans defeated a larger group of German tanks, including Panthers.
Point is, Germany was technologically ahead of the Allies in some areas, such as turbo jet technology, and tanks, but were well behind in others, such as piston engine technology, radar, and almost everything to do with all things navy. Britain and the U.S. utterly dominated Germany in naval tech.
Until the end of WW1, the German Navy had a clear objective: build ships superior to the opponent (Royal Navy) equivalents, and never sacrifice armour for speed. Given the numerical disparity between the Kaiserliche Marine and the RN, survivability was the goal for the Germans.
Also their Navy Design Bureau was pretty much free of political interference.
In the Weimar and later Nazi years, they had no technical outlines, or clear objectives other than rebuild the fleet as quickly as possible, and the Design Bureau was now filled with former front-line officers with little to no experience in design.
In 1914, the Germans had some of the finest warships in the world, close to bleeding edge in technical innovation, while in 1941 they were inferior to their opponents in many areas.

Are we really doing this "German tanks were superior to American ones and the Americans only one because they built more?" There's been such a backlash against it in the past few years I would think it would have died by now.
75mm Shermans were more than enough to counter Panzer IV and StuG III, Germany's main tanks. And 76mm Shermans could wreck Tigers and deal with Panthers, especially with HVAP. And since a lot of German tanks had reliability issues and we're breaking down constantly. Still think they had superior engineering?

The Iowa was a whole different beast to the Bismarck, it'd be like having Kongou slug it out with Musashi.
The irony being, for most of Operation Barbarosa, the Soviet tanks vastly outclassed the German ones. The Germans actually outnumbered the Soviets, and the Soviets were so badly organized on top of that the Germans were able to use tactics and numbers to their advantage.
Things like the KV-1 were essentially unstoppable, and the Germans were fortunate that many of the Soviet theories and innovations about tank warfare would prove ineffective.
As the war progressed, with the T-34 becoming the mainline battle-tank and undergoing several designs, the germans created the Panthers and the Tiger as counters to the T-34.
In Operation Zitadelle, and the overall battle of Kursk, about 400 Panthers were sent (I forgot the exact number, the important bit is the ratio sent to the ratio lost), and only nine survived. The Tiger, though pretty scary looking and hard to kill, was hilariously ineffective in an offensive role. Three out of Four were taken out by aircraft, before they could see combat. Additionally, they were so slow that German formations tended to lose a lot of their mobility. As doctrine placed a Tiger tank at the sides of the formation, a common tactic was just to approach a formation from both sides, curve back to its rear, and take out all of the weaker tanks (generally Panzer IIIs). As well, there was a big disadvantage: sheer weight and complexity.
The T-34 enjoyed being pretty cheap to replace, and this included parts. It was lightweight enough that it could be towed, if needed, and there were piles and piles of parts. This offset any possible issues of reliability (and helped mitigate the massive problem the Soviets had with quality control).
The Tiger, meanwhile, was too heavy to be towed. It was so heavy, that the muddy terrain and poor roads meant it was going to get stuck. Unless situations were pretty favorable, this means having to scuttle it or stop everything.
This means that a Tiger is pretty good in defensive situations, but its a disaster when it comes to its intended role in attacks.
Meanwhile, the T-34 was being upgunned, and new designs were coming in. You had the KV-1s, the KV-85 (more of a temporary measure), and the famed IS-2. As well, the Soviets, especially under Zhukov, developed rather sophisticated combined-arms tactics and the use of Guards, made up of veteran units, bolstered the overall effectiveness of the Soviets.
The Soviets always suffered from having a first-rate army among its elite cadre that has an insane drop-off as you go down the rates.
Anyways, the reason was less that the Germans were out-produced (This doesn't mean that the industrial strength the allies enjoyed wasn't responsible for germany's inevitable downfall, it was, but it doesn't matter how much you out-produce someone if you take unsustainable losses due to bad strategy) and more that they did not invest their resources in a practical manner. Just because something is scary, a marvel of engineering and is a monument of scale doesn't mean it will do its intended job well. Really, PZ-IV-H models would have been the way to go since sheer volume and quality, paired with the ability to be brought back into combat after getting knocked out means it will be able to actually do its job.
Its funny how japan seems to think American girls all look like...well Iowa.
I hate to say their being a little stereotypical. But I'll be honest with you, your right they do seem to make all U.S anime girls like this. Long blonde hair, really curvy, along with this obsession with beer and rock and roll. I do like rock and roll and Curves are normal here in the U.S but I haven't seen a Natural blonde in years. most of us have black or brunette hair. But yeah the character design for an American anime girl usually does looks like her. Not that I'm complaining thoug, I'm quite pleased with her appearance
in the U.S but I haven't seen a Natural blonde in years.
They're everywhere! Not as rare as redheads or as common as brunettes, but definitely everywhere. I saw several today, and I'm not even living in a German/Scandinavian hotspot like the upper midwest.
And furthermore, girls like Iowa do exist as much as a cartoon is likely to resemble anyone. The girl who lived next door to me growing up was a blonde who got breast reduction surgery to head off back problems.
You can complain about their choices but it doesn't help you to overstate your case.

It's definitely where we live man I see more red heads than I do blondes lol.😂
Everyone not blinded by a love of otaku culture to Japan's myriad and major issues regarding ethnic and race relations. I like the cartoons, but that doesn't mean I'm just going to casually ignore some of the uncomfortable facts about the people making them, nor do I think Japan is some golden city upon a hill. I've often said I'll happily consume there exported entertainment, but I have no desire to ever go to a place that fundamentally does not like me because I'm foreign and really would tolerates me principally because it wants my money.
Let me know when Asian males, Japanese ones at that,
Well the answer is 'never' because as I just explained using actual census data Japanese represent roughly .1% of the California population, and California actually has more then the national average.
are the main characters and always get the white girl in Hollywood and then I'll buy all of what you just typed.
There is nothing to 'buy' because I stated no opinions as the thrust of my main argument. I cited US census data showing that Japanese represent barely .1% of the California population and hence should if anything probably be rarer then they actually are in movies and television. Put another way in a thousand actors one Japanese would be roughly proportional representation.
Even the Chinese despite dwarfing the Japanese population compose only about 3.5% of the total California population, in fact Asians of all nationalities compose only about 15% of California population and yet that percentage is still 31% of the national total. Nationally Asians are rather easily the smallest ethnic group in the US making up only around 5% of the population depending on how you count them. So even in a totally fair and perfectly representative spread only 5 our of every 100 fictional characters should be of some kind of Asian ancestry.
When one goes and actually looks to see how close that ratio is to reality you actually surprisingly find that out of all the ethnic groups in the nation Asians alone are actually roughly proportionally represented, about 5% of actors are Asian and while the number varies slightly year to around about 5% of film characters are some manner of Asian. As seen here: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/30000-hollywood-film-characters-heres-many-werent-white/
You made broad generalization based in 'common knowledge' that don't stand up to actual facts. Based on actual populations Japanese and Asian characters and actors in US TVs and movies should in fact be fairly rare and they are, but the total numbers are actually roughly proportional to population. Now if you had made statements regarding under-representation of Latinos or Blacks you would have a solid argument to make, but Japanese and Asians? No, ethnic Japanese are rare and them not being common in US media is not the slightest bit racist.
And lol Japanese get called out on it all the time by the pig gaijins. Thing is, they aren't PC whipped as 'murrikans so they don't give two shits what whiners say about them.
It's more likely they don't give a shit due to being deeply xenophobic and insular. Most whites in the 50s didn't give a shit about blacks complaining about stereotypical or offensive portrayals either, but somehow I doubt you'd be quick to defend that attitude. There's a difference between "PC" and "clueless clod", has a victim culture that takes offense at every little thing grown out of control in recent years? Yes, does that mean that there are NO legitimate issues of bias or that any claim of discrimination is just 'PC whining', fuck no.
The thing is in the US at least this shit makes news, people complain about it. People get called out for it, that doesn't really happen in Japan. Japan is a deeply insular and unwelcoming society to outsiders, but even it's racism tends to be more exclusionary and bureaucratic rather confrontational, but denial or impediment to access of basic services, quiet exclusion from wider society, and informal segregation into what amount to ethnic ghettos is still racism even if no one is burning crosses, and all of that occurs in Japan, but it's simply not reported on widely.
People oh and ah over their fucking trains or funny customs, but somehow stories about systemic discrimination against the ethnic populations in the country consistently fail to make headlines. Luckily Karma seems to be catching up with them rapidly as there xenophobia is now very literally destroying there country as no one will have kids and they won't let in any immigrants even as huge swaths of the population are getting ready to drop dead.
At the end of the day we're all human and we all smell like shit, Japan is no exception, they have just as much of it smeared all over them as anyone else, but with maybe a bit more of it hidden from view.
And what's with all the downvotes I've been getting? Are burgers so butthurt they can't stand someone not kissing their collective fat asses?
I don't know maybe people dislike you trying to toss away facts and white washing discriminatory attitudes?

And those that survive and do have kids will still be Japanese, and not some mongrel that has neither pride or history.

I totally agree with that, but the last statement was totally unnecessary in a "you're the last person I want to hear that from!" manner. You just stated why I would never visit the USA. Racism exist everywhere, but not everywhere there are crazy people with hate and guns allowed so openly.

yeah...about that...the reality might surprise you. I live in Wyoming USA. We have the highest rate of gun ownership in the country,no permits required to conceal or open carry, no assault weapons ban, no universal background checks, and our state government implemented a law a couple years back after all those school shootings that basically said any government agent who tries to enforce any federal gun laws will face jail time and massive fine. you'd think it would be the worst place to live, right? All these guns and shit right?
Nope. Seventh lowest violent crime rate in the nation and has never seen a mass shooting. EVER.
Now, compare that to Chicago. Chicago is one of the highest in the nation for violent crime. Shockingly, it has massive gun control and laws. No open carry, Licenses are needed to buy any sort of gun, Concealed carry is allowed but only if you have a license to and even then there are prohibited areas where you cant period, and lastly they have banned assault weapons under the Blair Holt Assault Weapons Ban. If you have an assault weapon that you bought before the ban, then you either have to A: mod it to not be classified as an assault weapon, B: outright disable the gun or C: turn it into police.
Lets not forget that USA has really shitty mental health care, and a stigma if you are diagnosed with a mental illness to boot. So many who suffer can't get treatment or wont do to social stigmas.
TL;DR its not because we can own a gun you dumb shit. its because people are assholes.
