That was actually the plan all along. The sole purpose of the Maginot Line was to keep French reserves relatively safe while they can mobilize against a German push through Belgium/Ardennes. Of course the entire plan assumes the Belgians hold off the Germans long enough for them to actually do so, which never happened.
