I still wonder why the put slices of cucumbers as a side dish, even after nearly 30 years of eating it...

as a South-east Asian myself, it's just a tradition to put some fresh vegetables when we're eating meat (chicken or whatever, fried or roasted). Usually with cabbage, cucumber and green eggplant.

I think there's a health-related explanation about it, but I'm not good enough to explain it here.

Hainan chicken rice is delicious. I tend to leave the chicken though.

    Mouth...watering....Must...head to local Hainanese place...

If there's one thing I miss about my yearly trip to Singapore, it's eating delicious chicken rice every other day.

Not really, it's only meant as decoration (as in, nobody ate that afterwards. Those fancy rose tomatoes, those cucumber slices too usually not eaten). The 'tradition' stems from some chinese dynasy food, it seems. Japanese too puts shredded cabbage when serving deep-fried meat dish, such as chicken fillet or katsudon but for dietary reasons (they ate it).

    N, no thanks.
Why does it always come with slices of cucumber is beyond me.
    Ehhhh....
Be sure to eat it with the fresh coriander and sauce ♪
I need to return and report to my superiors, if you excuse me!
Coriander as many as you want.
As expected of Lady Suwako, that's a good idea! Sanae
The tender boiled chickens with unpeeled skins are filled with collagen.
    Eeh!? But I... (Momiji)
The garlic and soy sauce taste inside the accompanying sauce is very thick, so be sure not to pour too much!!
The garlic flavor inside the rice that has been cooked in chicken broth can stimulate your appetite.
Well, then. Why don't you have this "Khao man kai"? Thai adaptation of Hainanese chicken rice.
This dish included rice that has been cooked in chicken broth, served together with boiled chicken.... That so when they are in your mouth, the chicken taste will explode on your tongue!
