I'm more inclined to ask how Kyonko could miss the Katana when she went into the classroom. Asakura's knife was so shocking because it came out of nowhere...

I've been wondering for a while there were two differing styles of uniform for the girls...

For short period I figured black was for first-years, but quickly realised this couldn't be right since Asahina and Haruhi both wore white...

I'm surprised at myself for not realising until now the obvious fact that there is only one style of male uniform...

the (brown) cardigan is a sweater, for keeping warm - optional item. Since the male uniform has a blazer, there is no need for a light sweater. The option is to take the blazer off if one feels too warm.
