    Doesn't look like japanese clothes to me, more like korean clothes or chinese clothes.
    Can someone state for sure?

    Chinese, and the lantern is a sky lantern (天灯/孔明灯).

    And FYI, this pic is celebrating 七夕 (known as Tanabata in Japan), something like Chinese Valentine's Day.
