is the Akatsuki class really the youngest in all of the destroyers?

They were lighter than the Fubuki and the Ayanami-class, with less powerful machinery. (Thus explain why they look much younger in the game)

fubuki and ayanami use 4 boiler to push them
while akatsuki only use 3 boiler cause improvement in boiler design
thus make them less weight and less size

dunno if its true about reducing the boiler cause improvement
