It's always easy to forget about the whole children drinking alcohol in touhou. Mainly with Reimu, Marisa and Sanae since they are mid teens which is underage for drinking.

I always assumed gensoukyo's legal age of drinking was non-existent.

In a lot of places in history, alcohol was often given to even young children due to the local water being bad. Generally one can say underage drinking, albeit with watered down alcohol, has been the norm.

It's just that back then they didn't have wagons that could travel 80 miles per hour and smash into things at such a speed while drunk.

ZUN (Jun'ya Ota) adressed ,(forgive me If I remember correctly the ref.)around the time of Printworks ref. to aftermath of Immaterial and Missing Power/ 7.5,Touhouthis issue highlighting tha it should not be imitated otherswise there are heavy consequences and it was due to those Gensokyo's people,save for Sanae, being "unique ".
P.S. Sanae is actually a teetotaler,and she is originally from our world/The outside World.
