Maybe they thought comicbook style drawing doesn't fit Danbooru.

I remember a few years ago a lot of submissions got blammed just because the artist wasn't Japanese and/or the style wasn't animesque enough.

Yep. There are quite a few people here who think there are only two types of quality art: anime and fan-service.
