Might be funny, but it's more proper to use the actual intended words.
The thing is, the proper katakana for "weigh anchor" is 「ウェイアンカー」. The singer, however, speaks English with an accent (like most Japanese), and smashes the syllables together to fit in with the rhythm, so it sounds like 「ウェイカー」 (Waker) or even possibly 「ウェイクアップ」 (Wake up) to Japanese speakers, due to the merging of adjacent consonants. This is an example of a soramimi (mondegreen, misinterpreted lyrics).
Native English speakers (especially those from the Commonwealth) tend to pick up the "n" sound though, and hear it as "Wanker".
Using "Wanker" is an appropriate translation as it reflects an equivalent mondegreen.

That's certainly how I initially heard it.

Despite being a native English speaker, I didn't hear it like that at all. It might be because I'm not from the Commonwealth, but the ェイ/long-A portion was too prominent to my ear, apparently overshadowing the subsequent アン/short-A segment.
