They must be doing something wrong; it's entirely possible to hold a straight sword by the blade and not cut yourself.

I think it's more a symbol of how the three of them sort of revolve around that sword. If you think about it, it's really simple. Kinda obvious too. You have Link and Zelda reaching from one side (the knight and his princess), and Ganondorf from the other. That's also good vs. evil right there. Kinda says a lot without saying anything at all; I like it.
Well yes this is true and the grips even look similar but still, this isn't a single person holding a sword by the blade and using it as a bludgeon. I assume that their may be a tug of war going on here, which if there was, would likely changed each person's ability to half-sword properly. However, since it doesn't actually look like it I'll just bow to your word on the matter. Still thanks for the link it's actually rather interesting even if swords aren't my thing.
