I felt there was something really strange about the second series when I finally decided to watch the first episode a few days ago. A lot of the personalities seem to been messed up too (eg. I'm pretty sure Rico was a lot more reserved before. Now she's all smiles).
Eh, personally I think the second season gets their personalities better than the first. They were just too zombie-ish for me in the MadHouse version, while they do show some emotion in the manga.
Rico's always been all smiles. Her parents basically hated her because she was born deformed; now that she can walk around and doesn't feel completely worthless, she loves her life. It's season 1 that fucked up with the personalities.

I love the 1st season.
Precisely. The incongruity between the girls' lingering personalities and emotions and their expected roles as brainwashed killing machines was the core focus of the first series. It was brilliant, and made for a far more compelling and disturbing central conflict than fighting terrorists.
I like how none of you seem to have actually read the manga.
The most interesting thing about the animation change is that it also happens in the manga, characters get bigger eyes and more moe-like characteristics there too,the most distinguishing difference is Jose, he looks 10 years younger. During the later part of the manga it goes back to a more realistic style again (which is the best, especially because the author was also more skilled as well at the time, when compared to the beginning of the series).
Now, season 2 has poor animation quality over all, the cars look like boxes, the soundtrack is really bad and generic, the voice acting got worse too. I personally like season 2 Claes and Triela better in terms of appearance, the rest got worse imo.
Sorry for 6 years necromancy, but I just finished watching the series and reading the manga and couldn't help it.

The guidelines says: "don't bump images just to say how disgusting they are or how much you don't want to see them. "
Not " Don't try to interact with people on old conversations about actually good shows that no one is watching because they are all busy watching isekais".

You don't have to argue with me :) I just let you know why you were downvoted potentially. Personally, I wouldn't mind the downvotes . The only thing you need to do here is find pictures you enjoy. Cheers.
