You can't reliably move diagonally on a keyboard, plus using the controller is a lot more forgiving to your joints.

Playing Touhou with one of those would be incredibly difficult, because you only got 2 buttons. You need at least 3; one for Bombing, one for Shooting, one for Focus. You need a 4th if you want to pause, and in the older games, a 5th if you want to skip the cutscenes.

Sure you could bind Bomb to Select, but then you'd have to take your hand off the D-pad to bomb, which can kill you.
