So I mean, not that I have anything against women, but where's this trend to portray famous male figures as women coming from? Leave the genders as they are ffs, there's plenty famous women in history that aren't getting the spotlight they rightfully deserve, if you need a woman in your story, at least use a name that was actually a woman

Whole point of Leonardo being a female is because he wanted to be represented as a female as a summon. It's leonardo but the appearence is suppose to be Mona Lisa since that's what he deemed a perfect beauty....or something. It explains it better in the describtion over at the Wiki.

In case you haven't been noticing, Fate hasn't been big on faithful to researches, some characters are basically original characters with historical/legendary name stamped on it just for the sake of the franchise, and F/GO is the worse offender given how they clearly went for quantity over quality(see Attila for a character they got wrong on all fronts and is basically an insult to the Scourge of God.)

Not to mention there aren't particularly many women who would actually qualify as a "high tier" fighter on the level of King Arthur, Cuchulainn and the such. Sure someone like Mulan is a very, very obvious option, but compared to mythical characters she's hardly impressive at all. Of course you could argue that some other unremarkable "heroes" also exists in the current roster, but it's just an actual fact that history and legends tends to feature more male fighters.

Simple answer, moe. Follow the moe and you get the moolah.

really? leonardo da vinci? As a girl? Really?

I think the series jumped the shark right around the time apocrypha came out and now they're just grabbing those tots and milking like there's no tomorrow.

At least the new designs are kind of cool

I'll take your word on the not faithful to history part as I'm not completely familiar with the series, only somewhat, thanks for the info.
Then again Leonadro da Vinci wasn't much of a fighter either...
