Y'know, this makes me think: how long has it been since an official Zun character design featured a mob cap? They seem to have vanished from the main game series at around the point of the Moriya incident, with Minoriko being one of its last wearers. The closest thing that's come to them in recent years are the bun-covers on Kasen's head.
This somehow feels significant to me since it's been kind of a key part of the series' image since the windows era, especially since many of the characters who wear them are some of the more popular characters in the fandom.
I can't say I know Touhou that intimately, but it and the fandom that surrounds it do seem to have changed significantly in that span of... what, 6 years? Since a little bit before UFO came out at least.
