Gotta love how she has the real Mediterranean look-as opposed to Littorio and Roma, neither of whom look like they've ever ventured south of the Alps.

Is it confirmed that the artist is JiJi? By looking at some of his other arts the fellow doesn't seem to draw the pupils in the "normal" way.

Well, as it happens, Roma was built in Trieste and Littorio in Genoa, both ports in the far north of Italy, where people do tend to look much more stereotypically Nordic than in Rome and points south. Heck, until 1918, Trieste was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

I'm not sure Littorio/Italia and Roma's designer was actually keeping that in mind at the time, but their appearance is (perhaps coincidentally) consistent with the part of the country they come from.

Libeccio, meanwhile, was built in Ancona, farther down the Adriatic coast - so she looks about right too. :)

    Nordic? Don't you mean Germanic?

Same difference; northern-European as opposed to Iberian or Mediterranean.

Would love to see some more pasta DDs. For instance Euro, the destroyer that tried to save Libeccio, or Maestrale, Libeccio’s sistership that rescued her survivors when she sank. Or Alfieri/Carducci that were sunk at Matapan with Zara and Pola (Carducci being sunk while trying to protect the other ships by laying a smokescreen). Soldati-class would make for interesting CG – you could have an Alpino or Bersagliere with their namesakes’ distinctive hats.
Quite a number of Italian DDs also had rather interesting stories, like Espero (took on 5 British cruisers alone to cover the retreat of two sisterships), Da Mosto (attacked a force of two cruisers and one destroyer, again alone, to protect the damaged tanker she was escorting), Tarigo (torpedoed and sank a DD while already sinking herself), Vivaldi (rammed and sank a submarine, gained a reputation for never losing a ship on escort missions to Africa, survived massive damage in Operation Harpoon, scuttled by the crew in September 1943 after being badly damaged by shore batteries, managed to get underway again, and then hit again by a rocket bomb), Pancaldo (poor girl, sunk by torpedo bombers in July 1940, raised and repaired with two years’ work, then sunk again by aircraft after just four months), Ascari, and others.

Other than that, I wish for more Italian or perhaps other Axis or Allied DDs. Warship Girls had a good rooster of them now...
