I can just imagine this being a comedy about the youkai trying as hard as possible to hide the fact they are youkai but failing miserably but Merry and Renko are too oblivious or distracted to notice it and the season finale is Yukari using her gap powers in a stage play with Merry and Renko staring directly at her and they both just think "Wow they put alot of effort to make that look real."

a good plot twist would be that Renko and Maribel would knew that they were youkai, but they decided to play it low so they can give their new "neighbors/friends" a try. Afterall, what's worse than ruining a surprise?
