    I wouldn't want to ride a morning commuter rush train while carrying this big baggage in the first place. (^^;) Then again, I probably couldn't get on.

    Jam-packed train car

    Last night, I've watched a documentary on Discovery showcasing how busy Japanese train stations can be. And boy! I dropped my jaw just thinking of the fact that trains come every 3 minutes and there still isn't enough to transport even a small fraction of the population of Tokyo alone!
    So yeah, if I ever go to Japan, I will not be taking the trains, ever...

    Good luck. Trains are by far the most efficient way to get anywhere. Just stay away from the main lines during rush hour and you'll be fine. 80% of the trains are not like that even during rush hour. It's sensationalized on TV because the international community loves to think that's how Japan is. I have been on maybe 15-20 jam packed trains in 10 years here and most of those were after disasters, weather, or suicides.

    Actually, those were during rush hours. So not to worry about if you pick your time right.
