Ludwig van Beethoven (ルートヴィヒ・ヴァン・ベートーヴェン) is a zashiki-warashi and is the Stage 2 Boss of Afterword Afterworld.

During the events of Afterword Afterworld, a large sinkhole opened up in the ground, of which is a portal to the deepest floors of hell, the very places of which sinners are tortured for prolonged periods of time. However, it seems like the spirits of aforementioned sinners are escaping from the hole, apparently fleeing from something inside. Beethoven was sent to live in the outside world and her former master abused her a lot, which resulted in her running away from him and returning back to Gensokyo. She is highly determined to enter the sinkhole to make sure her ex-master doesn't come out of it. Little does she know that her ex-master is still alive and well though, so her expedition to hell would be in vain.

Her former master spending eighteen years pretending to be a deaf composer was inspired by her. Of course, he was soon exposed in a series of unfortunate events after his zashiki-warashi fled his home.

Personality
Beethoven is sassy, eccentric and rather enjoys showing off. She can get a bit sensitive over the subject of her past life with her master and is unwilling to forget about him. She is very determined to make sure he gets punished for being a fraud and a liar.

Abilities
Memorization, composition and playing of music, specifically keyboard instruments. She has an eye for music and scores and can play the piano really, really quickly. Give her a nearly impossible piece, for example, Mokou's theme, and she can replay it for you perfectly on the piano. If she can hear it, of course. She is nearly completely deaf and can barely hear without using her ear trumpet.

Removing the sound of the bullets and increasing the volume of the background music.

Relationships
Mamoru Samuragochi - Ex-master of Beethoven. He claimed throughout his career that he was deaf, leading media to dub him as a "digital-age Beethoven". However, it was revealed in February 2014 that he was not actually deaf and that nearly all works attributed to him were written by Takashi Niigaki.

Masumi Fukukomaru - Fellow zashiki-warashi. Sometimes seen performing with Beethoven.

• Beethoven's personality and overall character are loosely based off Schroeder from Peanuts.
• Her boss battle theme song incorporates elements from the 5th Symphony, Moonlight Sonata, and Für Elise.
• Sanae apparently asks if she's a Saint Bernard dog youkai. The results are not pretty.
• One of her spellcards is named after the Beethoven crater on Mercury.
• Her theme is named after the asteroid 1815 Beethoven
