I remember Randall Munroe covering ridiculously-high magnitude earthquakes in What-If once, saying that it would destroy the planet (which, given what else is on What-If, is probably meant literally instead of just "all life is dead and the surface becomes molten lava"). Though I guess a bit of literary exaggeration is still warranted.

From that last frame, I was expecting those Nausicaa things to appear. Those big guys with the sticks... you know what I mean...

From the What If book, the Death Star induced a magnitude 15 earthquake on Aalderan.

Is it considered a catastrophe if there is no one left for it to affect? Barring our 3 remaining Immortals, of course.

...it exploded the entire Japanese archipelago.
The Earth's crust was flung into the stratosphere...
