  • なかなか変なとこでした。
    寝られれば文句はないので、ぜんぜんオッケーです。

It was quite an odd place.

As long as I could get some sleep, I had no complaints, so I was totally okay with it.

That pillar contains a secret passageway to peep on all guests.

Better a pillar than electrified wires.

Reader-added tags include "Kures○nTongue-tied", "Thomasson", and "A survey with doubts about the SDM".

Today we have a curiously structured survey:

For weird buildings, you think of:
    • Doors on the outside wall of the second floor
    • Staircases that disappear into the ceiling
    • 6-jo-size* Japanese-style toilets
    • Handmade apartments where all the rooms are different shapes
    • The Umeda underground shopping center

"Thomasson" (properly, "Super-art Thomasson") is a term for an object or structure, from as small as a faucet to as large as an elevated bridge, whose presence is a mystery. It stems from Gary Thomasson, former 4th batter of the Yomiuri Giants. While he did well in his first year with them, he hit a major slump in his second year, yet was kept as 4th batter for some reason. Since he seemed to be there just to strike out every time, fans attached the concept of "A useless object that beautifully remains (and we don't know why it's there)" to his name. *6 jo = about 10 m² or 12 sq. yd.

Does love hotels mostly have those glass walls so that you can see the bathroom? It seems that one hotel I stayed with my family was a love hotel.

"帖", or "畳" (jo) is a traditional Japanese unit of area, based on the size of tatami ("畳"). "六帖" almost equals as 10 m² or 12 sq.yd.

I was trying to figure that out; my sources indicated it was either folding screens or areas equivalent to such screens, but my Google-fu was too weak to find something that showed layouts in units of jo, or why a 6-jo bathroom would be especially odd. Seeing the measurements converted, yeah, that'd be ridiculously large for a Japanese-style toilet.

I can understand the washbasin and the shower... but an exposed toilet?

    Mystery Layout
There's no denying this is a love hotel, is there.
    Well, that's no problem, but...
Why is something like this right in the middle of the room...?
Person at a loss for words
    Shower Room
    Toilet
...personally, I'm bothered by this huge pillar.
    Washbasin
