That, my friend, is left for Kongou's squad to take care of. Shimakaze's job is to get past the enemy with speed and at the same time, acting as bait, distracting enemies so Kongou's squad can take them out without having to fight them head on. With being breached and taken out so fast, there isn't enough time to see what's happening much less launching planes. And even if the planes are in the air, Kongou and Taihou would just shot them all down. On top of that, to ensure there's nothing get out, the I401's sub squad is right down there, ready to strike the left over.
All this, I believe, has been explained in the previous update already.
