nope, Murakumo is actually a Fubuki ship too, but she was given to the artist who drew Tenryuu and Tatsuta, that's why she has such wildly contrasting look about her everything

What's the reason for that, anyway? Giving her to another artist, I mean.

Same reason as why Samidare and Suzukaze was by a different artist, so that they would look more diverse and different, as well as not have to overwork (as well as overpay, if they even got paid) the artists.

Also, Shibafu would have just made another Fubuki with maybe twintails. Murakumo looking the way she does makes her stand out, unlike the rest of the Fubuki classes that nobody even bat an eye at.

Work load most likely. Shibafu, the one in charge of most of the Fubuki ships, got 19 ships to work with. The only other artist with such large amount of girls is Konishi, who drew the Kongou sisters and others, around 25 or so characters.

It's likely Shibafu wasn't going to be able to finish with all the characters so they gave Murakumo to Ayaki since they had only other 4 girls to work with

There are alot of Fubuki girls(amongsts other sister ships) There are only 4 kongou sisters, there's only 2 Tenryuu sisters etc etc. Shibafu and Konishi ahd their work cut out for them in terms of sheer number of girls to draw.

I called out Shibafu once before on his "Copy & Paste" style of drawing even if he does have alot of girls to draw. It's clear he is getting better(just like ZUN getting better in his drawings). You can tell by looking at Ayanami's pre-kai and her Kai-ni form.

Because the design that became Murakumo wasn't designated as Murakumo when the artist was commissioned. Basically, the artist was asked to draw up a destroyer design, and then the developers just used the design for Murakumo while disregarding uniformity among the early Fubuki Class.

Remember, Kancolle was supposed to be a short-lived game, not the blockbuster it has become. Consistency and such were not really considered, and the early design placements show that.

Kind of weird that Murakumo's the only paipan.

That and historically Murakumo was something of an outsider to the initial 4 Type I Fubuki class ships who were in the same DesRon (11) whereas she was the lead ship of DesRon12 along with some unimplemented Fubuki Type I's. The visual distinction works for her in that way too.
