Actually, the United States Navy and Royal Navy did operate dreadnoughts. As for Japan, they had dreadnoughts, they just didn't use them until near the end.

Japan had heavy battleships like Yamato and Musashi, but they didn't deploy any dreadnoughts, IIRC. Those heavy battleships like the King George V and Lion class of Britain's and the New York class the Americans were using were pretty much the closest things, especially since the WW1 dreadnoughts were outgunned by some later battleships.
