This admiral is quickly becoming one of the most likeable admirals for me out of all the various Kancolle doujins I've read... A masochistic admiral, who is also very charismatic, smart, gentlemanly and incredibly badass to boot! How can you not like him? This is probably my favourite Fusou involving couple right here too.

Masochist Admiral is one of the very few men who took a naval bombardment right on his face and lived to tell the tale (the other one being the Macho Admiral).

It possible there's a misunderstanding going on.

Similarily, the 外す can be to lose or to miss.

I assumed that whenever Admirals are shown on sea battles they're wearing whatever it is that the girls wear that allows them to skid on the sea as well

It looks to me like it's a deliberate ambiguity between whether "something vital" was his family jewels or his Fusou.
