It all depends on how you use either.

So a Katana mounted with a 9mm hilt? Does that effectively make the Katana a Gunblade? Which did in fact exist but there are many reasons why it didn't last. Still...she going to shoot or cut us all down this year?

Reminds me of the weapon they used in Kamen Rider Gaim, which was also a Katana that also doubled as a gun on the hilt which could also be tripled as a Naginata with the Daidaimaru sword.

The only time I ever really heard about a melee weapon used with a gun is with a Bayonet. I don't know how well the whole Nambu katana worked but if make-shift glock-knifes and bayonet on pistols were consider one of the dumbest idea in the world...well, I'll leave it at that.
