Actually, in the USSR was Ded Moroz, not Santa. Although who cares, definitely not Japaneses.

Translation - the school carriers usually have a theme, which means they're the Disneyland version of a country stereotype, and the girls attending adopt some of the stereotypical mannerisms and language of the country or culture they're patterned after. Great job finding it, although I believe it should be Alina, and not Alena. The original Japanese is Ariina, with a long e sound, the same as Alina, which also happens to be of Russian origins, which fits in with the Pravda theme.
