I think the Abyssals' intention for the specifically limited X-ray vision and a self destruct that can only cause Major Damage instead of outright sinking is a more interesting question. What were those supposed to accomplish?

Actually, why everyone is focusing on Houshou's treatment rather than Tatsuta's background is also an interesting question.
