Both instances of kanmusu dying here have been seemingly tied to them becoming attached to emotion. Rather that is the direct reason or a merely a catalyst, who can say. Though it definitely appears to be caused by them having emotions in this work.

I feel like Kitakami has something to do with this. Whenever someone dies, she always has that semi-smirk. I know RJ (Was it?) said in a previous panel that they don't experience emotion, but she (RJ) was crying when Abukuma died, no?

Something just doesn't add up.
