All of my characters are given the settings that they've had the experience of dating before. This is only spiritually of course, since they were all originally ships, so their partners would be their captains or similar. It's actually more of mutual trust, just that when they become ship girls, these feelings will start to anthropomorphize, turning into love or longing and the likes. In regards to Shoukaku, the 3rd side story will also cover it.If you were to simply describe the relationship between the three of them, Nagato's skittish towards Houshou, while the latter feels attached to the former, whereas Shoukaku is possessive of Houshou, and the latter relies on the former.Because of love, you want to hurt her. Because of love, you want to do something, be it good or bad. All because of love...People who're in love are all mad. Nagato probably acts towards Houshou this way. Compared to Shoukaku's kind and forwardness, Nagato's way of doing things are more destructive...That is all.The Houshou I've created however is the type that's kind to anyone, but will fumble about the one she likes. She liked Nagato, but also fancies Shoukaku, since both were kind to her before. Yet she falls in love easily with others because she's just lonely. It's actually quite sly of her...this will be shown in Shoukaku's arc.Afterword:And the Nagato I've created, under the Decisive Battle Doctrine of Japan, is actually egoistical and feels that battleships are better than carriers. Because she's also older than Houshou, and she ostracize carriers without understanding them, she actually looks down on her. She wants to protect Houshou simply due to the latter's self-sacrificing personality and the fragile side of her. Nagato probably likes her because the former appears strong in front of her, that she's never losing, and that the initiatives are on her hand...kinda feels like male chauvinism.
