How are you not able to tell these are 3D models? The jagged edges on all the supposedly curved surfaces makes it obvious; the rings on her hat is the most obvious sign. Not the mention the pixelation on edges of the hair have clear signs of anti-aliasing filter.
Is official_art somehow mutually exclusive with 3D? Is it impossible that a custom-posed rendering of a 3D model could be released as official art? The image most certainly contains polygonal modeling artifacts, so if it isn't 3D, it was drawn so as to look that way.
