The admiral is taking care of Shiranui with extra care due to the guilt of having let her sunk once.

"Shiranui, do you like cookies? It just so happens there's quite a lot of it here, wouldn't you have one?"

"If it's out of the commander's good will, I'll be glad to" (Why was there so many cookies around anyway...)

How did he let his bestgirl sink? No wait, before that, how does anyone manage to sink ships in this game? You can just sparkle your whole fleet for a tough sortie, or back out when one of them is at Heavy Damage.

There are a lot of factors that could lead up to a human error in this game.

First of all there's the player's drowsiness. Then there's the fact that (unless you're using 3rd party software which is strictly prohibited) you can't really see whether your ship is heavily damaged once you've got to the resume or retreat option screen, that fact added to the fact that there's no big change when a ship goes from moderate to heavy damage, tends to deceive a forgetful admirals.

Though, yes, there are some sucky admiral who'd sacrifice someone, playing like this is a real war where some little life expense is necessary to gain victory. Not that they're wrong though, the Damecon pretty much implies that sometimes you DO need to "sacrifice" someone to make things quicker, either your ship or your money.

Desperation, frustration, fatique or a combination of all three. Pretty Easy to make a mistake when maps like summer event E1,E2, or E6 troll the living hell out of you and you are so close to finishing the map. Also sparkling is not an end all be all... if rng decides it wants to screw you it will, and will do so repeatedly regardless of how sparkled your fleet is.

Let's also mention the infamous Fall event. A lot of admirals were push to the limit thanks to that goddamn regenerating Boss HP bar.

Tbh I have heard of slipping up like that. Some people I know have done things like continue sortie with a heavy damaged ship by complete accident. I use an API viewer, but not the KanColle tool that displays ship status and construction spoilers, because that apparently asks the server for the information every time and flags you.

I've certainly experienced the event frustration, (so glad that I'm reserved to a fault enough to have just barely not given in to the Eugen desperation).
