Does the Typhoon-class submarine weigh more than Nagato?

    Nagato-class Battleship Displacement: 32,200 tons
Typhoon-class Submarine Displacement: 22,830-24,110 tons when surfaced and 33,270-47,240 tons when submerged.

    Anyway, why did you ask?

Because I can't figure out the difference between displacement and weight lol

I guess 22,830 tons of displacement would exclude the 20 nukes.

As far as I know there are two kinds of displacement, ship displacement and water displacement, ship displacement is the weight of a ship when floating while water displacement is the amount of liquid being displaced when a solid was put on the surface of the liquid, I also think that ship displacement and weight are totally different matter, but when asking about the weight of a ship, they only give the ship displacement for an answer.

We totally need anybody who is really good at physics.

As I understand it, displacement is simply the weight of the water moved out of the way by the ship at rest in the water. Given ye olde "equal and opposite reactions," assuming the vessel hasn't sunk, the displacement is equal to the weight.

Weight, and in extension the volume of the ship. They need to move water more than their own weight to not sink, so the heavier the ship is, the bigger it would be; and that's not because of the amount of material used.
