It's quite normal for old clans to marry within the clan to keep the purity of the clan well, pure. Not just a japanese thing but a European thing as well. This practice has ofcourse fallen out in modern times.

But is that guy with the cataract from a lesser branch of the family? Wouldn't that completely defeat the point, as these are supposed to stay alive in case everyone from the main house die in horrible pain?
