Ryuujou's Last Moments

During the Battle of the Eastern Solomons on August 24, 1942, Ryuujou was assigned to strike Henderson Field, she was escorted by Tone, and DesDiv 16's Amatsukaze and Tokitsukaze. She was spotted by several PBY boat-planes, Ryuujou launched her planes afterwards but her aircraft were intercepted by enemy fighters, her aircraft managed to caused little damage at the Henderson Field. Several hours later, Ryuujou was attacked by aircraft from USS Saratoga CV-3, she was struck by 3 bombs and 1 torpedo, she stops afterwards and was declared to be abandoned. Amatsukaze immediately approached the crippled light carrier to rescue Ryuujou's crew. During the abandonment, they were attacked by B-17 bombers, despite that the damage Ryuujou already sustained, her fighters still intercepted the bombers, and save them from being bombed, she received no damage from the bombers. Another group of B-17s approached them but again caused no additional damage. After Amatsukaze completed her rescue, Ryuujou immediately capsized and sunk afterwards, four aircraft go down with her with 7 officers and 113 crew lost. The rest of the survivors were rescued by Amatsukaze, Tokitsukaze and Tone, they transferred Ryuujou's survivors to transport ships Toei Maru and Toho Maru afterwards.
