    He thought Kitakami had a mental disease about Ooi but in the end it was Admiral himself who had the disease... I guess when you lose someone you love, you could go mad...

    Is this enough for soul-crushingly depressing? Or just heart-breaking?

    You see, going on talking as if someone is there while they are not is one of the most depressing things ever existed. Yeah. I don't know if you went through that, but going through can never be easy. Especially when you are well aware of reality.

    I just think this is more than heart-breaking but not enough to be *soul-crushingly* depressing. I just went with the more generic pool as it should contain "soul-crushingly depressing" as a subset. The twist is more shocking than depressing to me.

    Well, it is shocking indeed. But hey, it's not enough to be in "soul crushing" to me too. Ah, I'm not the one to talk here. My requirement for "soul crushing" is really high I guess, higher than anyone. Or so I think. So, I just want to leave it as how others see it.

    It's indeed "depressing" enough for Admiral. So I think it's okay

    Anyway, I never expect such cliffhanger ending like this.....What a feel

    This reminds me of after I've lost my longest served battleship Fusou (yeah, she was my first battleship) at E-2, the recent event.

    I still need the firepower of the battleship, so I decided to pull Yamashiro back from the reserves (calling her "reserve" because I haven't put her in the fleet since I've cleared 2-4)

    Then her lines were like;

    "Onee-Sama, Yamashiro will certainly come back", "Is Onee-Sama also fighting now?", "Onee-Sama!? Whaaat, it's the admiral" or simply "Fusou Nee-Sama!?"

    That depressed me, seeing Yamashiro like that... but then I realized that Yamashiro was always like that at all times, with or without Fusou, it was me who was more observative to that after losing Fusou.

    Kitakami's last line in post #1676069 seems a lot more poignant now than it originally did:

    Geez, it's about time you let go of me already. This is embarassing...

    I prefer to think he's in despair from her not dropping in the first place lol

    Alternatively, all of the preceding scenes with Kitakami did actually happen... except that she had died in between the last scene she was in and the one where the Admiral appears to have gone mad.

    Yep I'm quite sure this is it. Otherwise how else could he have a picture of himself and Kitakami on his desk?

    No, I actually think that he imagined that conversation with Kitakami. She DID exist in the past though, but some time before the begining of this manga.
