That's part of what makes it not a good fanbase, because it mostly doesn't have actual fans.
Because of what Tetsamaru said? I don't think this is true. The only part of "canon" that half or more of the fanbase doesn't really care about is the PC-98 era, and that's because most people didn't play those games AND because even Zun said they are not part of the windows canon.

Well, if they're going to comment on pictures showing said characters, it's kinda mandatory. Otherwise, don't blame people for making fun of them. especially since a single click on the question mark next to the character's name is enough to not look like a complete dork.
